Ultimate GK was well represented at the Northeast Elite Women’s Soccer Showcase (NEWSS) last weekend – November 19,20 on Long Island.  5 of our Women Goalkeepers went with outstanding individual and team results.

Emily Santos received a lot of attention from scouts in her 4 games by making several miraculous saves to lead the ISA Sting 95′s into the Finals where the ultimately lost to ECNL Soccer Plus 0-1.  In the Championship game, Emily had two more incredible saves to keep the game alive, but it wouldn’t be enough.  No U16 Goalkeeper covers the goal like Emily Santos can.  None.  At the end, Emily came away with a .5 GAA and a MVP.

Molly Barrow was solid all the way through World Class ’96′s run to the finals.  It was the Championship game where Molly proved our motto that “WE DECIDE THE GAME”…because she did!  World Class ended up in a shootout, which came down to the final shot.  Molly saved the PK which gave WC the Trophy they earned.  Congratulations Molly for an outstanding performance and an MVP Championship!

While earning lesser results with their team, both Jacqui Gnassi and Francesca Ventura shared the 3rd Flight MVP by allowing only 1 goal in 4 games.  Unfortunately, in a 3 way tie, their FC Sting 96 team failed to win the third tie-breaker (goals for) and was eliminated.  Jacqui and Francesca have given up only 1 goal in the last 8 games, including the prestigious Bethesda Tournament where they were un-scored upon) and have a combined GAA of .125 with 7 straight shutouts before their last 0-1 loss.  Exceptional Goalkeeping by both girls keeps them on everybody’s “go watch” list.

Garland’s cutting edge curriculum is called “Attack Goalkeeping, and in addition to fundamentals and the tactical and strategical applications, Garland also teaches the Psychological aspects of Goalkeeping to Goalkeepers, including ” Overcoming the 3 Fears of Goalkeeping”, “Visualization Techniques”, “Concentration and Focus for 90 Minutes”.

Garland is and has been the Director of Goalkeeping at Soccer Academies such as FastTrack Academy, Parisi Speed School, and Cheshire Soccer.  Garland’s ability to teach Goalkeeping has also landed him positions as Director of Goalkeeping for several Town Travel programs.  He has spent 20 years training and teaching Goalkeepers and under his training programs has placed numerous Varsity High School, USA Olympic Development, and College Goalkeepers.

Ryan Garland was trained by Hall of Fame USA World Cup Goalkeeper Coach Joe Machnick and was trained in Indoor Soccer by MISL and NASL Hall of Famers Enzo Di Pede and Alan Mayer.  Garland was a 5-Time Olympic Development Goalkeeper and Regional Pool Player.  He was also Gatorade All American Goalkeeper.  As a scholarship Goalkeeper at Division I Vanderbilt University, Garland’s team broke into the NCAA Top 25 and Garland was All Sunbelt Tournament Team.  After earning his bachelor’s degree with Major’s in Philosophy and Classical History, Garland finished his career one year later with the Nashville Metros Soccer Team.
